Biography

Born in Pakistan, Ghafar is of Afghan heritage and was displaced as a small child. He grew up in Southeast London, Graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Painting at Camberwell College of Arts and works as a Curatorial Assistant at the Migration Museum.

Notable projects include Borderings selected by Hypha Studios to be showcased at Catford (2022). Sharing our Stories at the British Library (2022), Borderings: Displacement, Gender and Health produced by UCL (2021), NAE Open at the New Art Exchange (Nottingham, 2019) and Serp Reactivated with Peckham Platform in Tate Modern, (2018). 

Interviews and Awards include Creative Lives - In Progress by Creative Lives (2023), Local foreigners by Maryna Sulym (2022) and the Meads Final Project Award by Scotts Meads Foundation (2019).

 

"Recently, my work has become heavily concerned with mobilising refugee / diaspora voices, so as to to be heard and provide to the general public narratives that are based on lived experiences. A specific project I am currently undertaking, is to collect oral stories of Afghans living in the UK and their experiences of the Fall of Kabul on August 15th 2021."
